Funerals & Sorry Business

Funerals and Sorry Business are culturally important to our mob, but it is also important to make sure Elders and other sick people in our communities are kept safe.

Travel restrictions are currently in place between regions in Western Australia, which means people will not be able to travel to attend funerals and Sorry Business without an approved exemption for compassionate reasons.

To obtain approval, a request must be sent as early as possible to

Some important points from the guide are:

  • indoor and outdoor non-work gatherings of up to 20 people
  • weddings and funerals up to 20 people inside or 30 outside.
  • Talk to your mob about different ways to hold the service and burial while restrictions are in place.
  • Other ways to support families during Sorry Business (video messages, holding a memorial service at home, and other ideas.)

BNTAC knows that some funerals have already happened in the Pilbara where families have livestreamed the video through FaceTime/ Facebook live to include family members who could not attend.
