Russell Woolf Memorial Scholarship - Graduate Diploma of Broadcasting

Edith Cowan University Invites Applications for the $10,000 Russell Woolf Memorial Scholarship

Edith Cowan University (ECU) has proudly announced the opening of applications for the Russell Woolf Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship, valued at $10,000, is tailored for individuals from Indigenous or Torres Strait Islander backgrounds, as well as those from marginalised groups, admitted to the highly acclaimed Graduate Diploma of Broadcasting.

The scholarship, in honour of the late Russell Woolf, seeks to amplify diverse voices within the media industry. Russell Woolf, celebrated for his illustrious career in media, notably at the Australia Broadcasting Corporation, left an indelible mark on the industry.

“Russell cared deeply about encouraging diverse voices, especially from First Nations’ backgrounds. His family and I are thrilled to offer someone else the opportunity to enter the industry he loved,” Russell’s wife Kylie Ashenbrenner said.

"Russell completed a previous version of our programme when he was a mature aged student,” Course Coordinator Andrea Burns said.

“Each year he would come back and speak to the students. Russell always emphasised the privilege of being a broadcaster," she recalled.

"The Russell Woolf Memorial Scholarship embodies our commitment to fostering diversity in the media landscape," remarked Burns. “Current world events reinforce the need for a strong media. We’re looking for applicants who share our dedication to amplifying diverse narratives."
