Banjima's Prescribed Body Corporate
Banjima Native Title Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC (BNTAC) is the Prescribed Body Corporate (PBC) that maintains and protects Banjima People's Native Title rights and interests.
How do we carry out our PBC responsibilities?
To ensure traditional decision-making and Banjima Lore and Culture are always at the core of our organisation, BNTAC and our Board of Directors regularly engage with the Banjima Community, its councils and committees, and the Banjima Elders Council.
- Our organisation follows good governance practices in line with our Rule Book to ensure we comply with a number of regulations and laws — such as the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 (CATSI Act).
- We also monitor all of Banjima’s Indigenous Land Use Agreements (ILUAs) with mining companies to make sure they are properly followed and implemented.
- Because any mining or development activity can have a lasting effect on Banjima Country, we are required to minimise these impacts by protecting important cultural areas and sites through heritage survey work.
- As a PBC we also carry out a number of programs that promote connection to Country and support Banjima culture.
