Have your say on WA Biodiscovery Bill

The Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation (JTSI) is developing biodiscovery legislation for Western Australia - your input is important to safeguard Traditional Owner knowledge and practices!

The consultation paper can be read here.

What is Biodiscovery?

Biodiscovery is research into genetic resources, such as native plants and animals, to extract components of value.

Why your input is important-

The Biodiscovery Bill will set out processes to ensure that if traditional knowledge associated with a genetic resource has been shared with a researcher, and will be used in biodiscovery for a commercial purpose, the benefits are shared with the Traditional Knowledge Holders on mutually agreed terms.

How to be involved:

Workshops on this legislation are being held for Aboriginal people and representative bodies, in six regional locations and in Perth, during September and October.

Locations and dates are on the poster here

Lunch and refreshments are provided.

Remote attendance is available.

To register for a workshop - Eligible participants can register for a workshop, advise of any dietary requirements or find more information about the Bill on the biodiscovery webpage:
