Indigenous Cultural Heritage Stage 1 Consultations

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' views are needed to improve First Nations cultural heritage protections - the Commonwealth/Federal laws.

The First Nations Heritage Protection Alliance and Federal Government have released a new discussion paper on the Modernisation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Heritage. They are also seeking your views on how and what is needed.

The information along with how to get involved can be found here. There will be two stages.

Stage 1 Engagement and consultations – March to May 2022

Engagement will be delivered predominantly online

Invitations will be extended to:

- First Nations people and organisations

- State and territory governments

- Industry

Stage 2 Engagement and consultations – June to September 2022
Stage 2 will be a broad national engagement process informed by stage 1.
